Hot meals delivered daily to your door by local people.  We are a charity whose terms are: “The provision of a weekday delivered hot meal to the elderly or infirm in and around Cambridge who cannot provide one for themselves and have nobody to do it for them”

The benefits of the CAMMS service are much more than the delivery of a daily hot meal. Carers are given a respite with one less task to carry out each day.  It also provides a daily contact for the clients and hence peace of mind for their relatives. Occasional crises are reported immediately to the CAMMS office for relaying as required.

The CAMMS service is flexible, reliable and good value.  We cater for a wide range of dietary needs and the menu is varied. A telephone call before noon on a weekday from a new client or relative, carer, clinic, etc. secures a main meal and sweet delivered to your door the next day.

Due to the charitable nature of CAMMS each meal is reasonably priced at £4.00 for two courses.

HISTORY
About 12 years ago the Government suggested to Social Service Committees that great economies could be made if, instead of a daily ‘meals on wheels’ delivery, recipients could be provided with a fortnight’s supply of frozen meals, together with a small freezer and microwave if required (at a cost to the recipient).

This change suited some of the elderly clients but caused great distress to many of the most vulnerable who could not manage the bulk delivery but desperately wanted to remain in their own homes.  As soon as the situation was realised, some of the Cambridge Meals on Wheels staff, who had all been made redundant, led by the present management and friends, started their own service using the same premises and equipment.

CAMMS Meals on Wheels Limited was formed as a registered charity and has since provided a delivered hot meal at an affordable price, together with a crisis reporting service, to the elderly or infirm in and around Cambridge.
